Spring EV Deals 2026: State Rebates Before Budget Caps Hit

Check Your State's Spring 2026 Rebates

Spring reality check: dealer vs. rebate timing

April through June, dealers don't need to move metal. Spring demand is naturally high — people spend tax refunds on cars. You'll pay near MSRP. If getting below sticker is the priority, wait until October–December. If cashing in on state rebates before summer budget caps hit is the goal, buy now.

Manufacturer Spring 2026 Incentives to Watch

Tax refund season (March–May) is when manufacturers run lease specials to capture buyers with cash in hand. These change monthly. What to look for:

GM (Chevy / GMC)

Equinox EV and Blazer EV typically carry spring lease deals. Look for $199–$299/mo offers in April.

Hyundai / Kia

IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, and EV6 often carry $1,000–$2,000 bonus cash in spring. Watch for "Springtime of Sales" promotions.

Ford

Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning spring financing rates. 0–1.9% APR windows have appeared March–May in prior years.

Rivian / Tesla

Tesla cuts prices unpredictably — no seasonal pattern. Rivian has run R1T and R1S spring delivery incentives with $2,000–$3,000 off.

Manufacturer incentives change the first of each month. Verify on the brand's site before visiting a dealer.

Spring EV Buying: Common Questions

Should I buy in spring or wait until year-end?

Year-end (October–December) is better for dealer discounts. Spring is better for state rebates that might run dry by fall. The ideal play: check if your state's rebate is budget-capped. If yes, apply in Q2. If no deadline pressure, hold for a Q4 dealer deal.

Are spring EV lease deals actually good?

Real but not spectacular. Manufacturers advertise more in spring, but discounting isn't always deeper. Compare the residual and money factor, not just the monthly payment. A $249/mo Equinox EV lease is attractive if the residual is fair — less so if the buyout price makes no sense.

What happened to the federal EV tax credit?

The federal $7,500 EV tax credit was eliminated under the One Big Beautiful Budget Act, signed September 2025. No longer applies to new EV purchases. The used EV credit ($4,000) was also eliminated. State credits remain — see the checker above.
